Ryan Lewellen was unfortunately born in Iowa to (fortunately) two wonderful people who unwittingly bared the genetics to produce a record-setting baby. He still holds the record for largest baby in his hometown hospital (e-mail him for the stats).

But enough about him. The adult version is normal-size and currently a beer industry person, photographer, vinyl DJ, fake radio show host, and musician in Saint Paul, MN.

After being furloughed in March of 2020, he created Medium Fidelity Radio, a podcast-length, streamable "radio show" featuring digitized mixed cassette tapes and commentary. You can hear the 2025 Christmas episode, The Unbearable Christmas Tape Lives!, on Soundcloud. You might hear other episodes in the future.

Since 2024, the radio thing has taken a back seat to the live vinyl DJ business, joining a band, and falling back in love with photography. With these hobbies combined, Medium Fidelity Media was born.

In 2025, with the help of some talented and generous friends, he shot a series of horror photos called Scenes From The Crack In The Door. The idea was to try and create a variety of spooky imagery - some story oriented and cinematic - others more conceptual, like a photoshoot with a witch. They are also largely inspired by the book The Mysteries Of Harris Burdick. Lit mostly by flashlights, shot on film, and brought to life with the help of some very patient models, this series is a love letter to the bizarre tales whispered around campfires, and the things you might have seen in the corner of your eye.

We're in a particularly awkward time to find joy in imagined horrors when the real thing has so intimately invaded our lives. I don't know why I'm drawn to the macabre, but anything capable or energizing my imagination also releases the good and desirable brain chemicals. I hope looking at these photos will do the same for you.

Time and money willing, the series will birth new photos annually in October. Follow me on Instagram to catch SFTCITD2.
